FIRST TWO DAYS | 8.17.18

Whew! Crazy 2 days. I was crying really hard when I got to the MTC and it was slightly awkward because it felt like nobody else was crying? But everyone was really really kind and inviting. It seriously took me forever to find my district, like I didn't find them till like 3 pm. I cheered right up in like 20 minutes and started feeling super happy, and then saw the sweetest girl from my hall at Helaman and hugged her and just like burst into tears - it was funny. Also this escort who was helping me find people was like "come on Sister Rasmussen!" And I was like oh sorry, just quick emotional breakdown but I am fine now.

The cafeteria is literally the cannon center. I ran into Hannah Hayden (old roomate!!), Chris Kearl, Thomas's roomate, and about 6 other people from Helaman halls. My companion is really funny, she is from Samoa and is going to San Jose speaking English.

Oh also my district is only 4 people, us and 2 Hispanic elders.

ALSO plot twist, I am learning zero Spanish in classes here. Basically they didn't know we existed till like the day before I came for whatever reason and put us in this random English speaking district. I was so confused at first because there are advanced Spanish districts where they learn Spanish in the MTC. Like I went to go pick up my materials at the MTC and they tried to give me materials to learn English, and I was like, hmmm, I actually already speak this, can I have Spanish stuff please?:) very funny.

I think I will be fine though. I talked to my branch president about my concerns and he said that the only real point of MTC language classes is to get the very basics/feel for the language. I already have that down for sure, and I've been practicing with Elder Riestra and Cigarroa who are fluent in Spanish!

There are AMAZING people in my hallway, some girls that I am absolutely obsessed with. They are so kind and loving and so so fun. One is from El Salvador (Hermana Florez), another is from Ukraine but moved to Quebec and is now going on her mission to Paris France, her name is Soeur Tulieva (She is so beautiful and cool and nice and speaks 3 languages also I feel like she would be best friends with my friend Will because she lived in his mission and speaks fluent Russian). Our zone is cool and way funny and there are 3 Spanish speakers from the other district so I have been trying to practice with them too.

About my companion - she is from Samoa. I am teaching her Spanish to use in San Jose and she is teaching me Samoan for fun. We call each other "soa", which means companion/sister in Samoan. Sometimes in the morning she will wake up and just start talking to me in Samoan. It's really funny too because she just LOVES taking selfies!

Please write me anytime, I love hearing from you guys. Don't worry about me I am doing totally fine here. Just a lot of ups and downs but I think that really is how growth and humility happens. I am a huge fan of the workshops and lectures here because they do a great job at a dressing specific concerns I've been having and remind me of the power and incredible opportunity of missionary work. This is such a short time I have to give to the Lord so I can grow. The MTC is really fast pace and I do find myself stressed (I don't know why honestly this doesn't seem that stressful of stuff I think it's just adjustment period) but I have already been able to see answers to my prayers through thoughts I have my companion, people I run into, etc. It's amazing how much of the spirit is felt here. It's almost intimidating. Everyone here is so so bright and working so hard to make this the best most consecrated season of their lives to date, and I'm trying to do the same.

I love you guys and i miss you a lot. But I'm starting to understand a bit more why I'm here and grow my faith in that.

Please email me frequently I love hearing from you and I can check my emails anytime.

Pray for me that my Spanish from when I was 11 will return to me with zero MTC training ! Lol!

Xoxo
